1-14-07 . . .

. . . was a good bird day. We saw three wild turkeys, a red-tailed hawk, all kinds of woodpeckers and this guy, who, though his picture is enlarged beyond all hope of sharpness, you can still see is magnificent. Ben Franklin was definitely wrong about that whole turkey thing.
p.s. There was also a saw-whet owl.

Cellmates

This picture would have been loaded with irony if only the cold war were still on.

What do you think?

I heard a radio interview not long ago in which a member of an OHV club in Minnesota characterized himself and his fellow enthusiasts as, "motorized environmentalists."

Can't quite see it, myself.

Without a camera . . . 1/2/07

So I get to my mom's house to shovel the snow that fell on New Year's Eve and directly in front of the house there's this newsmobile with its antenna 20 feet in the air and another vehicle containing ace reporter Beth Jett and the snow's all trampled and there are tire tracks across Mom's front yard and it seems like a lot of trouble to go to just to make an example of somebody who ignored the 24-hour shovelling ordinance. But it turns out that the first murder of 2007 had happened right next door and nobody was interested in Mom's sidewalk after all.
